Welcome to The Mae Studio
Welcome to The Mae Studio! A serene, light-filled space nestled in Markham, Ontario.
Thoughtfully designed with simplicity and intention, the studio was created to feel like a breath of calm. Inspired by the warmth of natural light, it’s a space where creativity feels effortless.
It’s a gentle backdrop for all artists to create and connect in an environment that feels like home.
Whether you’re documenting motherhood, launching your next brand shoot, or simply carving out time to create, this space was made for you.
The Why
This studio is more than just four walls. It’s Serap’s dream brought to life.
After years of photographing families in borrowed spaces and outdoor locations, she longed for something of her own. A quiet, natural space that reflected the way she loves to work: slowly, intentionally, with meaning behind every detail.
She envisioned a place that would hold others the same way she holds stories through her lens. With care, with warmth, and with space to simply be.
The Name: Mae
Mae represents spring, new beginnings, and vitality.
The name is also a nod to May, the month this studio came to life. A season when the light begins to stretch a little longer, the earth softens, and new things quietly begin to grow. Just like this space.
To Serap, Mae symbolizes that slow return to life after a long season of waiting. It’s the feeling of something blooming gently, naturally, and in its own time.
She hopes the studio becomes that for others too. A space for soft beginnings, honest stories, and meaningful work.
About Serap Butun
Serap is a photographer, mother, and the heart behind The Mae Studio.
For years, she has captured the beauty of everyday moments. The softness of motherhood, the quiet strength within families, and the simple magic found in their connection.
The Mae Studio is a reflection of everything Serap values in her work: warmth, intention, and authenticity. Built lovingly with her husband, and inspired daily by her daughters, this space is the realization of a long-held dream.
She is honoured to share it with others, and hopes it becomes a place where meaningful stories are told and heartfelt moments are made.
